Evaluation of a Smartphone Based Screening Tool for Neonatal Jaundice

St Olav Hospital in Trondheim and Akershus University Hospital in Lørenskog

Patients: 302 term newborns

  • Age: 1 – 15 days
  • Gestational age: ≥ 37 weeks
  • Birth weight ≥ 2500 g

Aim: to evaluate the performance of Picterus Jaundice Pro in newborns of a Norwegian population.

Methods: observational cross-sectional study correlating methods of measuring bilirubin levels by:

  • Images (Picterus JP)
  • TcB (Dräger JM-103 or Dräger JM-105)
  • Total serum bilirubin (TSB) measurements

Results: This was the first clinical study performed. The bilirubin measurements from the Picterus Jaundice Pro images were highly correlated to TSB levels.
